F.    Sinking of Vertical Shafts in Teesta-III HEP
  •           Scope of work: Teesta-III is a 6 x 200 MW hydro project has two circular pressure shafts of 4.5 meters diameters and a depth of 650 meters with a design discharge of 87.5 cum through each shaft and a velocity of 6.963 m/sec. Pressure shafts are one of the critical areas of work at Teesta-III taking into consideration the geological & topographical features which after various geo-technical evaluations have come out to be a mixture of broadly fair (Class III) rock mass with some with good (class II) rock and some poor (Class IV) zones.
  •           Contractor: M/s Shaft Sinkers (Pty) Ltd, South Africa.
  •           Design & Technical Assistant: METS (Mining & Technical Services), the design & consulting division of Shaft Sinkers.
  •           Headgear Design: The Headgear is designed to accommodate the safe hoisting of blasted muck and the transporting of the personnel, equipment and material necessary for the operation. The headgear and the sinking stage will be pre-assembled, marked and then transported through the tunnel to the shaft.
  •           Pre-sink: The excavation to ± –65.0 meters will be sunken making use of a pre sink frame, mounted on the hanging wall above the bank level and below the excavated headgear. Hand-held drilling machines and conventional blasting techniques will be used. Sidewall support will be carried out concurrently during the excavation phase with 75mm thick reinforced wetcrete. Before pre-sink commences, a 4-hole by 36 m in depth cover round will be drilled by using the 4-boom Jumbo drill rig. Wetcrete and rock bolts will be used as support. .
  •           Main Sink: The Contractor will provide suitable double drum winders to sink the shafts to the required depths as well as 8 Dymot winches suitable to suspend the stage which will be used to carry out support works like wetcrete & installation of air & pipe lines.
  •           Specialized equipments: Winders, Winches, Sheaves, Drill rigs, Headgear, Control panels etc.
